The poem laments the persistent stains of bloodshed and gunfire scarring the earth, leaving nature itself in mourning.
The valley is deeply sorrowful
Someone is choking it by the throat
Struggling to breathe, yet unable to draw a breath
Even the trees seem to grow with cautious hesitation
As if the first one to raise its head will be cut down
The clouds drift in with bowed heads, full of remorse
The clouds drift in with bowed heads, full of remorse
Knowing they cannot wash away the stains of blood
It appears green, yet the grass is no longer truly green
Where bullets rained down, the scarred earth has not yet healed
Those migratory birds that once used to visit
Have all turned back, terrified of the wounded winds
The valley is deeply sorrowful, this valley of Kashmir
