What is the Fourth Schedule and why is it important for you to know? During the Action Committee protests in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, more than 200 people have been placed on the Fourth Schedule. These individuals include protesters, human rights activists, journalists, as well as social activists and political leaders. But why is someone's name added to the Fourth Schedule, and what happens to the individuals on this list?

Fourth Schedule Restrictions

The Fourth Schedule is a list of individuals suspected of terrorism, affiliation with a banned or suspicious organization, or involvement in activities such as religious sectarianism. The passports and identity documents of people on this list are revoked, while mobile SIMs and bank accounts can also be frozen. Travel restrictions can also be imposed on them. My accounts were blocked, my SIMs were blocked, and while condemning all other actions taken against me, I intend to challenge this in a court of law.

My accounts were blocked, my SIMs were blocked, and while condemning all other actions taken against me, I intend to challenge this in a court of law.

What legal options are available to individuals placed on the Fourth Schedule? There are some remedies provided in the law, such as filing a representation with the government stating that their name was wrongly added, or providing a surety bond, or submitting an affidavit to the administration stating that their name was entered incorrectly or that they have no ties to that organization, or that they were affiliated previously but will have no future connection with the organization.

Approaching The High Court

In such a case, if the government does not make a decision on their representation, they can also approach the High Court and file a constitutional petition.
